Chambliss holds on to slim lead

Moments after Senator Barack Obama was declared president-elect, GOP supporters who showed up to party with Saxby Chambliss last night expressed shock and dismay.

Some partygoers simply walked silently out of the ballroom at the Intercontinental Hotel in Buckhead.

Others were more vocal in their opposition.

“I’m Kurt Walker and this is Joann Lineberry.”

“Another 9/11,”
Lineberry interjects.

Walker continues, “You know, it’s funny. Joann says another 9/11. But quite honestly I think the American people were fooled because we’re all going to suffer.”

“I’m Zoe Walker. To me, it feels like, I don’t know, the devastation of 9/11 again, personally. And I feel like I just want to say to everybody, ‘Welcome to the end of America as we know it.’”

Late into the night, the race between Chambliss and Martin remained too close to call.

Chambliss, however, has vowed not to give up the fight.

"You guys said it was so tight, you know. But we said all along the race was going to be close. [At the] end of the day it's still going to be close. And I just think we need to give it - to let the process work, to play out."

Chambliss currently leads with 50.3% of the vote. Martin has 46.2% and Libertarian candidate Allen Buckley has 3.4%. Chambliss needs 50% plus 1 vote to avoid a runoff in December.
